The stocking has a reputation problem. Too often it becomes a holding pen for whatever was near the till.
The Department takes a firmer line. A stocking is a shipment, and every shipment needs a manifest: a short, deliberate list in which each item has a job.
Every pick below is unique, clever or properly popular, and every one costs under $20. A few exceptional items over that line have been granted Special Dispensation. They are marked accordingly.
The manifest runs from the oldest recipient to the youngest, in strict order of how much the stocking matters to them.

Two for tradition, one for the trend.
Chocolate coins
St Nicholas left gold for those in need. The Department leaves it in foil.
An orange
The original stocking treat, from the same legend. A clementine fits the toe exactly.
One sweet, matched to the age
Teens: anything swicy, sweet with a slow chilli finish. Chamoy-dipped candy is the current favourite.
Tweens: freeze-dried candy. Light, loud, crunchy, and all over their feeds.
Kids: Nerds Gummy Clusters. Crunchy outside, chewy inside, and a staple well beyond the usual viral spike.
Tradition and the trend sit side by side. One sock covers two generations of Christmas morning.
Rules of Engagement
- 01The orange goes in the toe. Tradition insists. The best gift sits directly above it, so the final reach is worth the effort.
- 02Wrap one item. Just one. A small mystery improves the whole operation.
- 03Mind the little ones. For anyone under three: nothing smaller than a toilet-paper tube, no sweets of any kind, no button batteries. The Department checks every pick against the CPSC recall list. So should you.
